Caratell, one of the finest Haute Joaillerie ateliers in the region, has been named among the Top 10 Jewellery Designers in Singapore for 5 consecutive years. The main creative force behind Caratell’s success is Mr. Michael Koh, whose everlasting passion lies in whimsical jewellery.
Mr. Michael Koh founded Caratell in 2004 and holds a B.A. Degree in Jewellery Design from RMIT. His journey began in 1988 when he won the ‘Diamond of Distinction 1990’ at just 18, making him one of the youngest designers at that time. Since then, he has received numerous accolades, including the Hong Kong Diamond Design Award and Young Designer Awards by the Singapore Trade Development Board. With a family background in the trade, Michael’s passion for jewellery extends to all forms of art, including painting and sculpture.
When it comes to bespoke pieces, Caratell offers only the best creations. Crafted with the client in mind, the process involves personal consultations, and consideration of the client’s personal style, skin tone, physique and personality, in order to bring out their best self. To assist clients in making the right investments in gems, Caratell has a full disclosure policy which allows insights into the entire gem procurement procedure. Caratell has often been commissioned to design and create meaningful masterpieces for important events attended by royalty around the region.
Caratell’s passion for design is not limited to just jewellery alone; in an unprecedented collaboration between a Singaporean jewellery brand and international watchmaker Moritz Grossman, ‘Tefnut Sleeping Beauty’ was a landmark lady’s watch design that officially launched in 2017. In addition to pushing boundaries, Caratell also strongly believes in nurturing talented young designers, in collaboration with some of Singapore’s most renowned local design institutes, where Michael has also been a part-time lecturer in jewellery design and fabrication for over nine years. Promising protégés are are nurtured to their full potential.
Colour has become a popular trend, ranging from soft pastels to bright yellows and coral hues, creating a refreshing, energetic, yet playful look. This year, Caratell has embraced this trend with the launch of the Zest collection. Inspired by master artists’ dynamic brush strokes, where splashes of colours become a language of expression, the Zest collection captures the essence of creativity and freedom. Traditionally, a key pendant is given as a present on the 21st birthday to signify adulthood, maturity, responsibility, and freedom. Clé collection features 100 uniquely designed keys, adorned with various gemstones, to celebrate this remarkable union, which also serves as a striking fashion statement. Each key is crafted with precision and designed to discreetly conceal the microchip, ensuring it remains subtle and does not detract from the overall elegance of the jewellery. Clé collection doesn’t just embody the meanings mentioned earlier, but it is also a key to the Phygital world (physical + digital).
