This season, Piaget's nature-themed collection incorporates innovative materials such as wood, pietersite, sodalite, rutile quartz, and elytra, resulting in a perfect blend. Vincenzo Castaldo, the creative director of Pomellato in Italy, expressed a deliberate preference for deviating from the four most popular gemstones in the jewelry industry, namely diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires. 
Diamonds exhibit a vast spectrum of colors, ranging from vibrant cherry red and delicate rose pink to vivid lemon yellow, icy blue, fiery pumpkin orange, and mesmerizing violet purple. Color, indeed, holds significant sway in determining a diamond's worth. When examining diamond clarity, often referred to as its "water," many individuals immediately refer to the classification table established by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). This renowned institute categorizes diamonds based on their transparency, spanning from the highest grade of colorlessness (D) to faint color (Z). However, transcending beyond grade Z are the esteemed Fancy colored diamonds. The intensity of their hues directly impacts their price, with deeper tones commanding higher value.
SEEK OUT THE PRICEY PIGMENTS
In the realm of Fancy colored diamonds, the crème de la crème lies in the scarcity and desirability of hues like red, green, blue, orange, and purple. Red diamonds, in particular, are the rarest treasure, formed through extensive periods of intense pressure and tension that distort the crystal lattice, causing atomic movement within. Considered the crème de la crème, they reign as the utmost valuable and coveted among all the captivating shades within the realm of Fancy diamonds.
The second spot is claimed by the blue diamond. Blue diamonds come in two types: IIb and Ia. The majority of blue diamonds in existence belong to the IIb category, where the carbon lattice is infused with boron, enabling the passage of electric current through the stone. It is believed that the source of this boron can be traced deep beneath the Earth's oceans. These precious gemstones contribute a mere 0.1% to the total mined diamond yield, with type Ia being even rarer.
Equally treasured are the green diamonds, born from countless years of natural radiation deep within the Earth. The influence of alpha radiation gives rise to a light blue hue, while beta and gamma radiation contribute to a darker shade of blue. As radiation interacts with the carbon molecules within the diamond, the path of light passing through the stone is altered, resulting in a captivating green coloration. Conversely, orange diamonds undergo a complex transformation fueled by various stages of nitrogen gas transfer. Through this process, they absorb blue light, attaining a flawless orange hue devoid of any brown undertones. The depth at which a diamond is formed underground plays a crucial role in intensifying the orange saturation, just like with other Fancy colors. Additionally, diamonds exist in the enchanting shades of purple, presenting two equally scarce variations: pure violet and deep purple.
Apart from these exceptionally rare colors, yellow dominates as the primary shade among Fancy diamonds, accounting for 60% of their population. Similar to orange, radiant yellow arises from nitrogen saturation within the diamond, which modifies the transmitted light by selectively absorbing blue wavelengths. The spectrum of yellow hues ranges from delicate lemon to vibrant canary. Notably, this type of diamond is favored by esteemed manufacturers such as Graff, Tiffany & Co., and the beloved Dior.
Orange and yellow diamonds possess traces of nitrogen, while blue diamonds contain traces of boron. However, when it comes to pink diamonds, they don't contain any natural elements apart from carbon. This peculiarity has posed a significant challenge for researchers trying to unravel their origins. Nevertheless, scientists have recently hypothesized that the mesmerizing pink color, akin to red, might be attributed to the diamond's light absorption properties. It seems that this exceptional anomaly arises from stress-induced distortions within the crystal lattice. The rarity of pink diamonds is astounding, with less than 1% of the world's diamonds exhibiting this exquisite hue.
FANCY COLOR DIAMOND VALUATION
The value of Fancy colored diamonds predominantly stems from their captivating beauty and the rarity of their hues. Nevertheless, several other factors contribute to the price and desirability of these exceptional gems. As the intensity of a diamond's color becomes more pronounced, its value escalates. This stands in stark contrast to colorless diamonds, where the price decreases as the shade intensifies, encompassing hues of yellow, brown, or gray. Moreover, the durability and purity of the color hold significant sway in determining the diamond's worth. Diamonds with a high color saturation, such as Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid, command higher values compared to their Fancy Light counterparts. On the top end of the spectrum, the presence of a purple, green, or red diamond demands astronomical sums due to their incredibly scarce nature.
Christian Selmoni, the Style and Heritage Director at Vacheron Constantin, believes that embracing one's origins and giving importance to Métiers d'Art is a natural progression for the watchmaking industry. "In the 90s, following the resurgence of mechanical watchmaking, many brands focused on creating 'technical' watches, ones with intricate and additional functions," Selmoni explains. "However, approximately eight to ten years ago, the traditional decorative crafts in watchmaking experienced a resurgence in popularity as they posed an intriguing challenge, not necessarily from a technical standpoint, but in terms of embellishment. Some watches are truly breathtaking, leaving the public in awe." Selmoni proudly asserts, "At Vacheron Constantin, we take great pride in our early utilization of decorative craftsmanship, dating all the way back to 1755."
The rise in popularity of Métiers d'Art coincided with a growing desire among customers to possess something truly unique. Christian Lattmann, the Vice President of Jaquet Droz, stated, "In today's world, people are seeking handmade watches that embody exclusive value." Sebastien Chaulmontet, the Development Director of Arnold & Son, emphasizes the enduring strength of the Métiers d'Art tradition within watchmaking. He further elaborates, "Throughout history, Métiers d'Art and high-end watchmaking have always been intricately intertwined."

Stubbs & Co is eager to expand its array of bespoke services offered to retail partners. Among them is the ConfigureRing app, available on iPad and desktop, which grants shoppers access to a vast selection of rings, presenting over 20,000 customizable options.
